Dexter Fire Truck

Below is the fire truck used by the Dexter Fire Department, as told to me by folks with a longer history than mine, at the time the current fire station was first opened in 1955.

This apparatus has many notable features, like spoke wheels, crank starter, single leaf-spring suspension for the front axle, and clanker bell on the open dash.  This fire truck is roughly the size of my 2014 VW Passat Sportswagen.

The fire truck is pictured here several years later at the 1959 Dexter Homecoming Parade when it had been retired from active service and reassigned to the parade circuit.  Picture from the Ann Arbor District Library archives.
